Having studied Chinese medical philosophy since the age of 18 Miranda was led to try acupuncture and herbal medicine for herown health problems.

The results were both dramatic and lasting, and this in turn led to Miranda undertaking a four-year, full time B.Sc. (Hons) degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine at the International College Of Oriental Medicine (ICOM) in East Grinstead.

The course covered not only oriental medicine, but also involved extensive training in western medicine; anatomy, physiology, and pathology giving graduates the benefit of being able to understand conditions in terms of both medical systems.

Miranda also has a particular interest in Chinese dietary therapy and in addition to her degree has studied Macrobiotics both in London and at the Kushi Institute in the Netherlands.

She is a member of the British Acupuncture Council, the governing body for acupuncture in the UK, guaranteeing an approved standard of training, hygiene and safety and carries full professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover.

Acupuncture in Pregnancy

Acupuncture is becoming popular among GPs to help relieve morning sickness for pregnant women, a study shows.

It is hoped the findings will give wider recognition of the medical benefits of the ancient Chinese art.

The research follows a previous study which showed acupuncture's success in treating sickness in women recovering from breast surgery, including mastectomies.

"Our results have shown that as little as one acupuncture treatment can significantly change the way these women feel," said research co-ordinator Dr Caroline Smith.
