Roy Haitzin - BSc(hons)

Roy holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture from International College Of Oriental Medicine (ICOM). The degree is a 4 year full time course which involves in depth training in classical acupuncture and western medicine giving the ability to relate to both medical traditions.

Roy's interest in oriental medicine was sparked by attending a diploma course in Zen shiatsu. He has also undertaken a 2 year diploma in Swedish massage and a foundation course in Tui Na. Working with both acupuncture and massage often gives quicker results and a more long term resolution to many conditions.

The western medical component of Roy's degree also led him to develop a keen interest in biomedical research into acupuncture and he now provides private tuition in western physiology at degree level.

Roy is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), the governing body of professional acupuncturists, ensuring a high standard of safety, hygiene and training. His practice is covered by a full professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Acupuncture in Pregnancy

Acupuncture is becoming popular among GPs to help relieve morning sickness for pregnant women, a study shows.

It is hoped the findings will give wider recognition of the medical benefits of the ancient Chinese art.

The research follows a previous study which showed acupuncture's success in treating sickness in women recovering from breast surgery, including mastectomies.

"Our results have shown that as little as one acupuncture treatment can significantly change the way these women feel," said research co-ordinator Dr Caroline Smith.
